TORLYS History

TORLYS is a privately owned company founded in 1988 by founding partners Fernando Luz and Anibal Claudino. The name TORLYS is derived from Toronto (TOR) and Lisbon (LYS).

• The company was originally started as a general building products and flooring distributor serving the Central Ontario building supply and commercial hardwood flooring markets.

• In 1991, current President and CEO Peter Barretto joined TORLYS, and the previously broad-based regional building materials supplier was streamlined to focus on becoming a national floorcovering distribution specialist.

• Since 1988, TORLYS has successfully become one of the fastest-growing flooring companies in Canada.
